Athletics Carnival 2014

Last week we had our (last) athletic's carnival.
Very glad that I decided to go; definitely worth waking up and going to school rather than sleeping in.

Also brought my camera and took many photos (Totalled ~1400 photos). It was pretty fun taking sports photos; really taught me a lot about how to get the right shot when things are moving fast (focusing is particularly difficult LOL)

Just some photo dumps.

Shotput

WK was insanely good at discus. Not even kidding.
It almost went down the hill and over the fence. V impressive.
Really enjoyed taking photos of long jump and triple jump.

Friend, JL, absolutely smashing long jump (and also triple jump).
Hurdles were also pretty fun to take photos of!
Getting that split moment when they jump over the hurdle oh my gosh.

These past 2 days I really, really appreciated my high shutter speed, wide aperture, and 6fps continuous burst (!!!!!)

So many good shots, but had to cut the face off, sorry.
But, by far, the most intense sport would have to be high jump.
This was so impressive, and the tension in the air while they leaped over massive heights was incredible.

Kind of disliked the low lighting within the gym (EURGH NOISY PHOTOS) but I did the best I could.

One of the final two jumpers left
Also managed to strap GoPro to the pole, and shot some amazing 120fps videos of people high jumping!

Really excited for those shots to be processed. My friend's processing the video this time, though, and not sure if I'll post it here, but it'll be posted on facebook.

It looks very, very impressive. (I LOVE SLOW MO)

That's as tall as me...
Overall, great two days.

Kind of bittersweet that it's our last athletics/sport event. Last time wearing sports uniform?
As much as the uniform looks terrible, I have to admit that I'll miss it.

No more athletics carnivals. Wow. I think I'm going to go and cry in my corner now.

Anyway, exams are coming up, so may not have a chance to post anytime soon. However, as soon as they finish, I will be legging it to Vivid Sydney, so will definitely be posting then!! Looking forward to it.

[Also thinking of not bringing a tripod this time. Kind of wanting just to bring my prime, and just enjoy the night, rather than focus too much on taking long exposure shots (because those absolutely take so much time and effort and I just ceeeeeeebs). Street photography? Man, it's been a while.]

Quadschools 2014!

Quadschools on Monday and had a great time taking as many photos as I could.

I had some organisational duties as well, which made it difficult to juggle the tasks, but I think everything worked out okay, despite the few hiccups here and there.

Friend HL drawing up the score sheet!
It was the 4th inter-school games we've had, and so excitement was up.
The last three consecutive games had been won by our school, so there was quite a lot of pressure for our grade to lead the school to victory, once again. (would have been a real shame to see that Quadschools cup leave our trophy cabinet for the first time in history)

This year we really tried to rally support from the entire school, and pick up school spirit.
As per tradition, we had drummers going around chanting.
Our school hosted basketball (as always) and so I really only have shots of that.

Team P from the side-lines in the outdoor court
It was a full on day and I can assure you, I felt so incredibly proud of our teams.
It was also super duper great meeting a few new people, and also seeing some familiar faces (one in which I hadn't seen in 6 long years, wow).

Boys team

Scorers
Managed to get some really nice action shots (so thankful for high shutter speed) of the b-ball players. Unfortunately, a lot of them I can't post here because I don't exactly know them, and faces, etc.

Boys team B vs team J.

Also, stumbled across this unexpected costume.

I'm told they hid in bushes and scared quite a number of people.

Final score sheets.
WINNER: our school
So proud of the day and how everything went.
It's amazing how so many schools work together and put in so much effort to make this happen. I think it's all worth it.

At the end of the day, we managed to win (we were victorious!) and I'm incredibly proud of all the schools and their teams for playing hard and getting their game on.

Camp at Collaroy

Grade love
Went to a camp at Collaroy Centre for 2 days!

Really great, as all camps are. There were good memories made on this camp :')

Was kind of disappointed that it was only a 1 night, 2 day camp, though. Kind of wishing it had been 2 nights, 3 days, because that would have meant we could have fit in a lot more things.
But none-the-less, those 1.5 days that we did have were really great ones.

Started off with some outdoor laser tag!

Was able to go right up close to the arena to take some decent shots
Was really surprised by how great it was!
Definitely a lot better than indoor laser tag, I'll say that at the least.

In the midst of action
Played a few games and let me tell you from first hand experience, it's friggen tiring.

It gets extremely tiring after a while, and I found myself panting heaps.
Or, maybe I'm just unfit. I suspect it's the latter.

Also took my GoPro for a run in the first game. (Kinda wish I had taken it out on the 2nd and 3rd games, because I did a lot better in those ones than the 1st, but sadly I didn't)

Top home base
Also landed myself a really nasty bruise on my right knee from getting too into the laser tag game. I must have knelt down really hard on something.

My leg muscles also ache so much from walking around everywhere mid-squat (and from vertical challenge, as well)
Vertical challenge! I took my GoPro up on this too

In the afternoon of the 1st day we also went off to Collaroy Beach Park, and I took heaps of photos.

Unfortunately, since I don't exactly want to post faces on this blog, photos are really limited.

Friend getting pushed into the water
[photo cred: not me // My friend JK took this]
Day 2 and a small group of people (~30-40) woke up extra early to meet at 5:45AM and head off down to the beach again before sunrise!

Despite only getting 1.5 hours of sleep, I was pretty determined to go.

It was cold, it was wet, it was exhausting, but it was worth it.

(even managed to find the energy to jog!)
If only I lived next to a beach; then I would go jogging so much more frequently in the morning.

Lovely sunrise at 6:30AM.
Taken using the GoPro
Great camp.
Hope the memories will stay for a long time.

Kind of bittersweet that it's our last school camp, but hey, at least it was a great one!
